She received initial medical treatment of her injuries at an area hospital and was later admitted to Vijaya Hospital at Madras. when doctors discovered that gangrene had shaped on her right leg, amputation was needed. Chandran says that this era was the toughest time of her life. She afterward regained some quality with the help of a prosthetic Jaipur foot.
