Dev Anand Father Mr.PishoriLal Anand Was an Advocate in Gurdaspur District Court in Punjab. He studied from Sacred Heart School, Dalhousie (then Punjab) to matriculation and went to Government College Dharamshala before studying in Lahore. Later, he obtained a BA degree in English Literature from Government College in Lahore, British India.

Dev Anand had a love affair with actress Surya for 3-5 years, but they never got married due to Surya's opposition to Nana. Suraiya remained unmarried until his death on 7 January. Dev was married to Kalpana Karthik (real name Mona Singh), a Bollywood actress at a private wedding shooting a taxi driver. Karthik was a Christian. They have two children, Sunil Anand, who is single and Devina Anand (Narang). Divya married at the age of 4, but divorced a few years later. Debina has a daughter, Jeena (Narang) (born 1986), who is married to fashion stylist Prayag Menon. Jeena is a professional photographer.

They became romantically involved during the shooting of this movie. Dev Anand's Political activism during emergencies in the late 1970s
Dev Anand was also politically active. He led several film personalities who stood against the pressing internal emergency of the then Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. He campaigned actively against his supporters in the 1977 parliamentary elections. He also formed a party called the "National Party of India", which he later broke down.
